Hi, I’m Meryl

I’ve had a close connection with food from an early age. Growing up between both France and Spain, time spent with my grandparents during the school holidays introduced me to a world of local Mediterranean produce and delicious home-cooked cuisine.

I finished my Film & Media degree in 2008 and thought about specializing in food photography. Things were quite different pre-social media and I decided that I needed to expand my knowledge of food. I took a Food critic course at a renowned culinary school in Argentina, where I learned about food anthropology, ingredients and cooking methods while trying to survive in a big city like Buenos Aires. I soon enough realized that food styling was a real job.

I have 8 years of experience in editorial and advertising and I have assisted some of Melbourne’s best food stylists. This experience allowed me to start my own journey as a food stylist, while also reconnecting with clay. I started wheel-throwing in 2014 and I am now a small batch functional and decorative ceramicist.

When I’m not gathering ingredients at the market, cooking or keeping updated with what’s going on in the world, you’ll find me on the wheel creating my own handmade ceramics props and working on custom pieces for restaurants.
